The company was founded by Ingo Stroup, who has been involved in the Building Science industry for over 30 years. He was one of the original participants in establishing ENERGY STAR in Idaho and has a comprehensive understanding of building performance and efficiency measures. The company has grown significantly through the years and is one of the largest rating companies in the Northwest.
In recognition of our commitment to the ENERGY STAR program, Building Energy, Inc. received the Environmental Protection Agency, EPA ENERGY STAR Market Leader Award in years 2009 – 2019. Meet Our Team
|Ingo Stroup – President and CEO – RESNET Certified HERS Rater/Provider – ICC Certified – ITC Certified Infrared Thermographer – QA Designee
Ingo started Building Energy in the early 2000’s and has steadily grown the business into a full-service energy services company. He previously enjoyed a fifteen year career with the State of Idaho as a Senior Energy Specialist for the Department of Water Resources, Energy Division and the Division of Building Safety. He is known as one of the Northwest’s leading experts in building performance and efficiency. Born in Germany, Ingo is particularly fond of German cuisine and libations. He likes to fish in his spare time and is an avid traveler, preferring tropical destinations.
|Brendon Smith – RESNET Certified HERS Rater – ENERGY STAR Certified
Brendon attended the University of Idaho and worked for the US Forest Service for six years prior to joining Building Energy. He is the senior employee in our Field Services Division and has been instrumental in coordinating our Energy Modeling and HERS certifications. In his spare time, Brendon likes to camp and hike.
|Cody Espy – RESNET Certified Rating Field Inspector
Cody is originally from Chico, California and went to school in Dallas, Texas. He is our HVAC specialist, certified in EPA and NATE, and brings a wealth of knowledge in that industry to the company. Prior to that, he was an EMT and worked at St. Alphonsus as an ER Technician. He enjoys spending time with his family and is a fan of outdoor activities that involve camping, fishing and hiking.
|Connor Grossman – Logistics/Programs Lead – RESNET Certified HERS Rater – ICC Certified – ENERGY STAR Certified – NGBS Certified
With a degree in Environmental Studies from BSU, Connor has a passion for sustainability and the environment. He is the lead for scheduling, programs and technical services and is involved with every component of day-to-day operations in the company, including utility efficiency programs management. Along with caring for our planet, Connor enjoys bicycling, camping and reading comic books.
|Evan Westphal – RESNET Certified HERS Rater – ENERGY STAR Certified
Evan is a Boise native and is excited to be a part of assisting with better energy performance of homes in the Treasure Valley. He studied Physics at Boise State and is applying what he learned about Thermodynamics to the field of building science. He spends most weekends in Cascade, where he enjoys swimming and hiking.
|Heath Chisholm – RESNET Certified HERS Rater – ENERGY STAR Certified – Green Rater
Originally from Missoula, Montana, Heath has been living in Boise since 2012. He graduated with a BA in Environmental Studies and has a genuine interest in sustainability and has taken a lead role in the green programs the company offers. He worked as a fly fishing and raft guide in Glacier Park for 4 years and his other interests include hiking, biking, walking his dog Finley and generally being outdoors.
|Lynn Shoemaker – Scheduling Coordinator
Lynn coordinates the field services at Building Energy. With a background in the construction industry, Lynn has stepped into this role easily. She schedules all field calls and ensures that we are on track and on time. Lynn is the first point of contact for calls to the office and works closely with our team and builder clients to ensure we are providing great service.

Maggie is a West Highland Terrier. Her responsibilities include greeting visitors to our office, politely begging when there is food around and sleeping a lot.
