The company was founded by Ingo Stroup, who has been involved in the Building Science industry for over 30 years. He was one of the original participants in establishing ENERGY STAR in Idaho and has a comprehensive understanding of building performance and efficiency measures. The company has grown significantly through the years and is one of the largest rating companies in the Northwest.

|Ingo Stroup – President and CEO – RESNET Certified HERS Rater/Provider
Ingo started Building Energy over thirteen years ago and has steadily grown the business into a full-service energy services company. He previously enjoyed a fifteen year career with the State of Idaho as a Senior Energy Specialist for the Department of Water Resources, Energy Division and the Division of Building Safety. He is known as one of the Northwest’s leading experts in building performance and efficiency. Born in Germany, Ingo is particularly fond of German cuisine and libations. He likes to fish in his spare time, is open-water dive certified and an avid traveler, preferring tropical destinations.
|Denice VanDoren – CFO
Denice manages the administrative, HR and financial side of the company. An entrepreneur at heart, she has a strong marketing background and started, then sold, a coffee shop and a newspaper since moving to Idaho in 2000. She was also a licensed Idaho Real Estate Agent for seven years. Walking Maggie, Pilates and Yoga are some of her interests.
|Mary Altman – Field Services Schedule Coordinator
A native of Wisconsin, Mary and her family moved to the Treasure Valley in 2010. She brings a solid history of organization and logistics to Building Energy and is the primary contact for all field services. She is married with three children and three grandchildren and enjoys spending time at their cabin in Cascade. Jet skiing, kayaking and hiking are some of Mary’s favorite outdoor activities.
|Brendon Smith – RESNET Certified HERS Rater
Brendon attended the University of Idaho and worked for the US Forest Service for six years prior to joining Building Energy. He is the senior employee in our Field Services Division and has been instrumental in coordinating our Energy Modeling and HERS certifications. In his spare time, Brendon likes to camp and hike.
|Connor Grossman – RESNET Certified HERS Rater – Building Science Specialist – ICC Certified
With a degree in Environmental Studies from BSU, Connor has a passion for sustainability and the environment. Connor manages the QA and AXIS components of the organization as well as performing field testing and inspections. Along with caring for our planet, Connor enjoys bicycling, camping and reading comic books.
|Shane Amen – RFI in training
Shane graduated from Idaho State University with a Bachelor of Sciences in Geology. Shane is learning building science principles along with field testing and energy modeling, with the goal to become a Certified Rater. He previously worked for the USGS in Washington studying fish, specifically trout and salmon. His hobbies include hiking, biking and weight lifting and he is a big fan of Lord of the Rings.
|Heath Chisholm – RFI in training
Originally from Missoula, Montana, Heath has been living in Boise since 2012. He graduated with a BA in Environmental Studies and is studying to become an RFI and subsequently a Certified Rater. Heath worked as a fly fishing and raft guide in Glacier Park for 4 years and his other interests include hiking, biking, walking his dog Finley and generally being in the outdoors.

Maggie is a West Highland Terrier. Her responsibilities include greeting visitors to our office, politely begging when there is food around and sleeping a lot.
